Description

There are over 700 different species of Eucalyptus, with about 500 of which are able to produce an essential oil. Some reports state that only fifteen species occur outside Australia, with just nine of these not occurring in Australia. Though with only a few that produce essential oils – these oils are universally well known for their medicinal or perfumery applications. Of each Eucalypt, the quantity and quality of essential oil produced varies greatly, due to a different chemical fingerprint with variations in the constituents within the oil. This and most Eucalyptus oil contains cineole which is a common constituent for the medicinal, therapeutic or pharmaceutical application.

Ingredients: Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil

This a crisp, fresh Eucalyptus oil with a simple, clean top note profile. The number relates to the oils 1,8-Cineole content, a key active in the Eucalyptus family.

Cineole levels range from 45-95% across Eucalyptus varieties with 60-65 and 80-85 variants being most popular due to their blend of activity and aromatic profile. This aroma chemical is found in at least 200 essential oils and is also a major component of Cajput, Sage (white), Rosemary and some Lavender oils.

Cineole has some antioxidant activity and it has also been found to be a skin penetration enhancer which may be interesting in anti-ageing formulations but is something to be more mindful of for formulations targeting people with very sensitive skin.

Cineole has some antimicrobial properties and is useful as part of a natural antimicrobial preparation although it is unlikely to be able to act as a cosmetic preservative.

This oil is steam distilled.
